Toulouse 2025

Eira's Erasmus+ trip to Toulouse in November 2025 was a diverse learning experience that combined climate, history, science and space, as well as a fair amount of French culture and croissants. In France, politeness is an art, and the interactivity of Eira's students is a modern performance, where the Säkkijärvi polka is sung to the beat of Edith Piaf.

A visit to the partner school, L’École Nationale de la Météorologie, introduced 23 students and three brave teachers to the collection of weather observations, the career path of meteorologists, and the latest research on climate change. The school’s French hospitality was reflected in small gestures that turned even ordinary moments into festive ones.

The trip’s packed schedule guaranteed unforgettable moments for everyone.

,Muséum de Toulouse, is a natural history museum whose vast collections took students on a journey through time, from dinosaurs to the future of humanity. It  was a breath-taking experience. The botanical garden attached to the museum added a touch of zen, providing the perfect counterpoint to the group’s recovery from petrified fossils.

The tour continued to the medieval fortified city of Carcassonne, which turned out to be a reality, not just a board game. The city inspired wonder with its historical atmosphere and offered a moment when no one knew which was bigger: the size of the walls or the medieval French ego.

The last actual day of study was spent in the Cité de l’Espace, a space city where space stations, real ships and the Imax theater’s deep views of the universe opened up before our eyes.  Learning literally extended beyond the borders of the earth, even though no one was able to contact the little guys.  A few participants announced that they were keeping a career in astronautics as an option, just to be on the safe side. The symptoms of moon madness hit us when the students’ quiet trudging began to resemble the steps of a Moonwalk.
